Lattice Energy Calculator
Lattice Energy: -- kJ/mol
π What is this calculator for?
This calculator helps you determine the Lattice Energy of an ionic compound using the Born–LandΓ© equation.
π How to use:
- Enter the constant (k) value.
- Input the charges of the cation (Z₁) and anion (Z₂).
- Provide the distance between ions (r) in nanometers.
- The result will be automatically calculated below.
π§ͺ Formula:
Lattice Energy = (k × Z₁ × Z₂) / r
Where:
k = constant (depends on compound),
Z₁ = charge of cation,
Z₂ = charge of anion,
r = interionic distance in nm
π Example:
For NaCl: k = 1389 kJ·mol⁻¹·nm, Z₁ = +1, Z₂ = -1, r = 0.281 nm
Lattice Energy = (1389 × 1 × -1) / 0.281 = -4946.62 kJ/mol
