About the Percent Yield Calculator

This calculator helps you determine the percent yield of a chemical reaction, which measures the efficiency of the reaction by comparing the actual yield (what you actually obtained) to the theoretical yield (what you should have obtained according to stoichiometric calculations).

How to Use This Calculator

  1. Enter the actual yield you obtained from your experiment in grams
  2. Enter the theoretical yield calculated from stoichiometry in grams
  3. Click "Calculate Percent Yield" to get your result

The Formula

Percent Yield = (Actual Yield / Theoretical Yield) × 100%

Example Calculation

Scenario: In a reaction, you expected to produce 25.0 grams of product (theoretical yield), but you actually obtained only 22.5 grams (actual yield).

Calculation:

Percent Yield = (22.5 g / 25.0 g) × 100% = 90%

This means your reaction had a 90% yield.

Why Percent Yield Matters

Percent yield is crucial in chemistry as it helps assess the efficiency of a reaction. A 100% yield means you got exactly what you expected, but in reality, most reactions have lower yields due to side reactions, incomplete reactions, or product loss during purification.
