Osmotic Pressure Calculator
Osmotic Pressure: -- atm
How to Use This Calculator
Enter the molarity of the solution, temperature in Celsius, and optionally adjust the gas constant. The osmotic pressure will be calculated automatically.
What is Osmotic Pressure?
Osmotic pressure is the pressure required to stop the flow of solvent into a solution through a semipermeable membrane. It’s a key concept in chemistry and biology for understanding solution behaviors.
Formula
Osmotic Pressure (π) = M × R × T
- M = Molarity (mol/L)
- R = Gas Constant (0.0821 L·atm/mol·K)
- T = Temperature in Kelvin (K = °C + 273.15)
Example
For a 0.5 mol/L solution at 25°C, the osmotic pressure is:
π = 0.5 × 0.0821 × (25 + 273.15) = 12.29 atm
